And He said unto them, ‘Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while’
Mark 6:31

It seems we always have a helicopter landing in our house! Have you ever been nearby when a helicopter lands? Everything is in total chaos. The air from the rotors knocks everything in its path off its feet – mainly you. Everything around you is loud and unsettled. It is a rush – and a panic attack all rolled up into one. I’m not a fan. And yet I bring this situation on myself.
My husband says that being married to me is a lot like living on a helicopter-landing pad. I am always on the move and always have a plan. I have to admit that I tend to equate busyness with productivity – a statement that is

Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Romans 8:17

When my husband, Steve, was in high school, he worked various jobs and was notoriously frugal. His twin brother, Dan, and their best friend, Mike, were not quite as thrifty. Dan and Mike had odd jobs from time to time—flipping hamburgers at the Wild Pig being the most infamous. But their funds disappeared as quickly as they got them. Steve, on the other hand, was a saver. And they knew it.
Steve had a little brown wallet with a horse head on the front and a zipper on the top. It was his “saving wallet”, and he kept it safely tucked away in this sock drawer. Occasionally, Steve, Dan, and Mike would get together to plan an adventure, such

Television shows about lawyers and court rooms get me every time. I have to admit that I love watching people argue, uncover the truth, and operate within the confines of the law to expose it. One of the tactics I’ve watched lawyers use (at least on TV) is burying information. If

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Ephesians 4:22-24

The girl looked in the mirror. She noticed her slumped shoulders, her lack of motivation and her tired eyes. Life was always letting her down. People were too.
Still, she got up and went to her closet. Before her, stood the garbs of gold, laced with jewels and vibrant colors, but as always, she was drawn to the clothes of old. She knew them well. They were comfortable.
I can never be more. I can never do more. For I see my past. I remember what I did, how I lived, and how I so horribly failed.
The girl was trapped in a way, but in another way she was free. The door was open to her, she could

Rejoice because your names are registered as citizens of heaven.
Luke 10:20

Heaven … heaven is on my mind these days. My sweet father-in-law graduated to heaven a few weeks ago where I am sure He was met by Jesus, his precious wife, and so many friends and loved ones who have gone before him.
Dad’s death vividly reminded me that this world is not my home. Heaven is. When I came to Christ in a personal relationship, my citizenship was changed from Earth to Heaven. And what a sweet exchange it was for me!
Heaven is where Jesus is.
Isaiah 63:15 “LORD, look down from the heavens and see; look at us from your wonderful and holy home in heaven.”
Heaven is a real place, a beautiful city of light.
Revelation 21:23 “The city

In the very first Rocky movie, the Italian Stallion, Rocky Balboa, very eloquently encourages his demure girlfriend, Adrian. “I got gaps. You got gaps. Together we got no gaps.”
But Rocky got it all wrong. He’s got gaps. Adrian’s got gaps. And no person alive is going to fill those gaps. God is the only One who can fill our gaps. And I’d go so far as to say that He is the One who gave us those gaps so that He can fill them. He is the great I AM who fills our gaps and fills in our blanks.
When we say, “I’m not good enough,”
God says, “I AM.”
When we say, “I’m not smart enough,”
God says, “I AM.”

One of the most lovable and charming characters in the history of cartoon animation has to be Winnie the Pooh. He simply oozes adorableness and positivity.
In the movie, Pooh’s Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin, Pooh and Christopher Robin, who are the closest of friends, have a moving conversation high in a tree where strength and love flow heart-to-heart.
CHRISTOPHER ROBIN: “Oh, Pooh. If ever there’s a tomorrow when we’re not together, there’s something you must remember.”
POOH: “And what might that be, Christopher Robin?”
CHRISTOPHER ROBIN: “You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”
POOH: “Oh, that’s easy. We’re braver than a bee, and, uh, longer than a tree, and taller than a

Have you ever felt like you were wandering in circles? Like you do the same things over and over again – laundry, groceries, emails. You visit the same spots – kid’s school, gym, work, church. Certain seasons of life can feel like a holding pattern in more ways than one. Spiritually,

“What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are? Meanwhile, the people in Judah said, ‘The strength of those who bear the burdens is failing. There is too much rubble. By ourselves we will not be able to rebuild the wall.’” Nehemiah 4:2,10

I saw her standing there, her image lit up the screen of my phone sometime around 3:30 in the morning. I couldn’t sleep and after praying, tossing and turning, playing solitaire, and praying some more only to still lie awake in my bed, I began scrolling through Facebook to occupy my mind. That’s when I saw my friend standing in the rain in front of a blazing fire and my heart cried out with new prayers in the dark of night.
It burned. Her whole house burned, and everything in it was ruined.
Thankfully they were home when the lightening struck and so they got out with their kids and dogs and cars. But still…everything else burned. It all has

Pretend with me for a moment. Let’s say you are on an island in the Pacific. Pick an island, any island, but make it a tropical, lush, and beautiful one. You walk out onto the porch and see some equipment laid out just for you. You know what it is, and you know what it’s for. You’re excited! You’ve always wanted to do this, but never had the right gear.
You slip into a black sleek wet suit, zip up the front closure, and most likely marvel at the way it holds everything in. Then you squeeze your feet into squeaky black flippers. I know they’re tight, but go ahead and wiggle your feet in. Next, you strap a
