Today’s Truth

Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me

(Isaiah 49:15-16, NIV).

Friend to Friend

I’ll be the first to admit that I am a woman who is easily distracted. More times than I care to even discuss. Sigh. I would love to say that the detail-oriented-woman in me rocks my days, but that’s not always the case. One crazy day, a few years back, the absent-minded-scatter-brain in me dominated big time. Here’s what happened…

After I dropped my kids off at school, I swung into the local gas station and ran inside to prepay. I handed the cashier forty dollars in cash and headed out the door to pump my gas. As I left the mini-mart, I held the door for the woman behind me. As she passed in front of me, we recognized each other. She is the secretary for a local church where I had ministered in the past. We chatted for a few minutes and then each went to our cars and went about our days.

My next stop? The coffee shop.

I grabbed a piping hot dark roast, added a happy little splash of half and half, and settled down with my Bible and journal for some one-on-One time with the Lord. In the hour and a half that followed, I read, prayed, and chatted with a few friends that came through. It was a very peaceful, pleasant morning… until a horrible realization hit me full force: I never pumped my forty dollars worth of gasoline!

Oh. My. Glory.

Earlier, I had pulled up to the gas pump, paid the cashier in cash and then drove away!! And, to answer the question you’re surely asking, “no…I didn’t even have a receipt to prove that I had paid.”

This was not good.

The detail-oriented-woman in me hid as the distracted-absent-minded-woman in me wallowed in the awfulness.

A cold panic washed over my heart. My husband and I run our household on a cash budget. We try hard to be good stewards of our money. To make wise financial decisions.

This was a forty-dollar blunder!!

In a flash, I was out the door and on my way back to the gas station. I felt like such a ding-dong! I prayed the whole way there, “Please Lord, let the same cashier still be working. Please let her remember me!”

I screeched into the parking lot on two wheels {kidding}, ran inside, and blurted out, “Do you remember me?” The cashier turned to me with a smile and a receipt in her hand and said, “I know exactly who you are! You are paid in full. Go ahead and fill up!”

I thanked her profusely and breathed a big sigh of relief.

As I pumped my gasoline, the panic faded to peace. In that moment, the Lord spoke to my heart as if to say, “My sweet daughter, so many times you pull up a chair to spend time with me and fill up your soul on my daily bread, only to be distracted and leave empty. Rest assured, each time you return to my heart and to my Word, my response is the same to you: “I know exactly who you are! You are paid in full. Go ahead and fill up!”

Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.
(Isaiah 49:15-16, NIV)

Let’s Pray

Dear Lord, Who am I that You are mindful of me? Thank You for always remembering me, and for engraving my name on the palms of your hands. Would you please be my peace today?

  1. Please pray says:

I’ve unfortunately lost two pregnancies, a horrific miscarriage and horrible ectopic. Pregnant with #3. Had a few ultrasounds–sac has grown but no fetal pole or heartbeat showing up and dr. said should have by now. Please pray for a miracle for this pregnancy–that God would be gracious and remember He brought this child to me and to please not take it away. I can’t bare another heartache. Please and thank you kindly in advance for believing a miracle.

Please pray, I too have lost babies. But God is faithful. Put your faith and trust in him as he is right there with you no matter what happens. You are in my thought and prayers for strength, faith, patience and for peace for God’s plan for you. God bless.

I’m not one of the GiG girls. Just a reader who came upon your comment and want to pray for you. I hope that is okay.

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray you do your good and awesome work right now. I pray for your hand to be on this pregnancy. I pray for peace of mind that you are the miracle worker. Lord, we sometimes don’t understand the journey you take us on, and sometimes it seems like a broken road. But you always come through and always have a breakthrough waiting for us. I pray for this lady, that this pregnancy will be her breakthrough. Please wrap your arms around the little one growing inside of her. Please wrap your arms around mom and dad. Show them your grace. In your name we pray. Amen! <3

I, too, have had many miscarriages. Prayer certainly can turn a bad situation around. It helps to just trust it’s in His hands. I know the pain, but that’s all you can do is trust.

I am always running around, definitely at work as a social worker, but I am frequently reminded to be still

I love Psalm 139, especially ‘For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.’

God is good and faithful. Today I surrender the worries that may come today, God has gone before and taken care of them. In Jesus Name, amen.

  11. Deb says:

As one who lost 9 pregnancies, I would encourage you to get checked for something called MTHFR. It is a major cause of miscarries and partly because of folic acid is added to many processed foods. If you do have this, you can correct it with the right form of B vitamins. I did the genetic testing to find out and that is when I found out that I have 2 bad copies of this gene, the worst combination you can have. But, praise God, I now have answers I have looked for for over 21 years.

  12. Reese says:

Mom who is on baby #3.
I too am in the same boat. Remember we are not islands. God allowed me get pregnant again my 3rd pregnancy after miscarrying twice. Find you a bible verse to keep in your spirit and prayer warriors who battle and petition for you. No matter what God knows the plan and his WILL is always best! Jeremiah 29:11-14. Praying with you….

  13. Terry says:

Holy and Everlasting Father, I bow to pray for the lady who has had 2 miscarriages. Thank you Father that you have allowed her to conceive again. Father, because you are all knowing, if there be anything that is causing the miscarriages, please reveal it to her and give her a solution to it. Father fight her battles, and allow her to experience full term pregnancy. Father, let her experience the joy of motherhood, the joy of breastfeeding, the joy of changing diapers, and the joy of being called mum. Apart from you, there is no other that can grant her heart desires, renew her strength and give her a living testimony. Do it for Your Glory Lord. In Jesus Holy name I pray AMEN

  14. Deborah says:

I can definitely relate to the distractions. I have sat down so many times to be filled up and left empty. God’s grace is sufficient for us, it’s great to know that we can always come back at any time to be filled. There is a song entitled “Fill Me Up God”.

  15. M Rose says:

this is a typical Like Father, Like Daughter story

isn’t it amazing that like a Mother, she will never forget us and remininding us that Worry is often futile, any place of Panic in our hearts should be handed over to the Prince of Peace. Simply beautiful! besides once you are worry free, the first place it shows is your face
